Kahili Adventist School is sponsoring Kaua‘i’s only public showing of Warren Miller’s film, “Off the Grid,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Kaua‘i Community College’s Performing Arts Center.
Olympic skier-turned-NFL-footballplayer Jeremy Bloom serves as narrator for the film which chronicles the world’s best winter sports athletes embarking on a global mission to discover the deepest snow, the steepest mountains and the world’s gnarliest snowball fight.
The film gets “off the grid” with scenes such as skier Jaime Pierre setting a worldrecord, by skiing off the edge of a 245-foot snow-covered cliff; Kevin Bramble and Monte Meier becoming the first adaptive skiers to tackle the remote, helicopter-accessed backcountry of Alaska’s Chugach Mountains.
Cost of “Off the Grid” is $10 for adults and $8 for students. Tickets are available at both Nukumoi Waimea and Po‘ipu, Dr. Ding’s in Hanapepe, Kalaheo Café and Coffee Co. in Kalaheo, Progressive Expressions in Koloa, Meyvn Skateboard and Clothing Company at Kukui Grove Shopping Center, Hanalei Surf Company in Hanalei and Kahili Adventist School. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Door prizes including outrigger canoe paddles, skateboards, surf wear and much, much more will also be available. All proceeds will go to Kahili’s Senior Class.
