Lorraine Ventura Amaral
Lorraine Ventura Amaral of Hanama‘ulu died at home on Feb. 28, 2007, at the age of 74.
Born in Kapa‘a on Sept. 29, 1932, she retired from the County of Kaua‘i as a custodian supervisor.
She was preceded in death by her son Gilbert Amaral Jr., husband Gilbert Amaral Sr., mother and father, Theresa and Joaquin Ventura Sr., sister Patricia Kaui, and brother Joaquin Ventura Jr.
She is survived by children Celeste Akiona, John Amaral, and Peter Amaral; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; brothers James and Damon Ventura, and sister Lillian Rapozo; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 17, at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. with Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. by Fr. Bill Shannon.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Amaral family with arrangements.
Eleanor Kawai Paia
Eleanor Kawai Paia of Honolulu died Feb. 24, 2007, in Honolulu, at the age of 90.
Born Feb. 16, 1917, in Lihu‘e, she was a retired telephone company operator.
She is survived by son Peter Opulauoho; 17 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary on O‘ahu, where service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Inurnment at 1 p.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mary Rodrigues
Mary “Maria” Rodrigues of Koloa died at home on March 6, 2007, at the age of 92.
Born on Kaua‘i on May 2, 1914, she retired as a housekeeper with Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by sons Benjamin (Juanita) Callejo Sr. of ‘Ele‘ele, John (Violet) Taboniar of Kekaha, Joseph (Julie) Taboniar Sr. of McBryde; daughters Ruby (Daniel) Rivera of McBryde, Betsy (Edwin) Shinagawa of Kalaheo, Joanna Castillo of Waimea, Julita (Fred) Patricio of Kekaha, Rosalina (Vincent) Sonoda of Koloa; daughter-in-law Gloria Callejo of McBryde; brother Thomas (Maryann) Rodrigues Sr. of ‘Ele‘ele; 45 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by son Herbert Callejo Sr., and son-in-law William Castillo Sr.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 31, at Kauai Veterans Center in Lihu‘e with visitation from 10:30 a.m. and services beginning at noon. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens at 2:30 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.
