Bantam Devils hold off Wap’paa rally

KAPA‘A — Brandon Taylor’s towering figure added the extra measure for the Devils in a 7-6 win over Wap’paa Sunday in Kapa‘a.

The Devils worked quickly to build up a 3-1 halftime lead, but Wap’paa tied the contest in the final 34 seconds on Chris Villabrille’s third goal of the Bantam division game.

But the Devils did not roll over. In fact, they answered in less than 15 seconds when Brandon scored with 20 seconds left for the 7-6 win.

“It must’ve been the lightning Friday night,” said Penni Taketa, the association’s scorekeeper. “Friday night’s Bantam game was really exciting, too. The kids must’ve gotten worked up with all that lightning flashing.”

Brandon topped the day’s scoring with five goals and an assist for the Devils. Mathias Davis and Cydney Sitzler each netted a goal and Austin Taylor and Matthew Heller added an assist apiece.

Greg Balmores, the Devils’ goalkeeper, finished the contest with 16 saves on 22 shots.
