Cyclist hit by SUV in Hanama‘ulu

A bicyclist was hospitalized yesterday after being struck by a truck in Hanama‘ulu.

Lily Morinaka was heading south on the northbound shoulder along Kuhio Highway near King Kaumuali‘i Elementary School around 10 a.m., when she attempted to cross the highway on her bicycle. She was then broad-sided by a northbound Ford sport utility vehicle.

Morinaka sustained serious injuries and was taken to Wilcox Hospital for treatment.

At press time, Morinaka was still hospitalized.

The two male occupants of the SUV were not injured.

Alcohol and drugs were not factors for the driver and speed was not a factor in the crash, according to police.
