The new Salary Commission recently elected Allan Smith as its chairman, states a county news release.
Smith retired as senior vice-president from Grove Farm in September 2006.
“It’s a pleasure and an honor to serve on an important commission such as this,” said Smith in the release.
Dawn Murata, an associate attorney with Belles, Graham, Proudfoot and Wilson, was nominated for the Salary Commission by Mayor Bryan Baptiste and is scheduled for an interview with the County Council this week.
To assist the commission, Kris Nakamura is serving in a support role.
Directed by an ordinance, the Salary Commission is tasked with setting the salaries of council members and all mayoral appointees listed in the Kaua‘i County Charter. In addition, the commission may also change the policies governing its salary-setting decisions.
A March 15 deadline has been set for the commission to present a report to the County Council, which coincides with the administration’s budgetary submission.
