Fugitive Chris Dichoso Santos, 31, of Kapa‘a, led police cars and a helicopter into a high-speed chase earlier this week, fleeing into a cane field.
Police spotted Santos, who has been wanted since Jan. 3, in Hanapepe Town earlier Friday afternoon.
“After spotting him, they gave chase to the end of Moi Road,” Mary Daubert, county spokeswoman, said.
Santos then got out of his black sport utility vehicle and ran down into the valley.
“Police lost him at that point and the residents of the area pointed in the direction in which he headed,” Daubert said. “The helicopter brought him to the spot but it already had become dark, so they weren’t able to find him.”
Despite rumors swirling that KPD shot at Santos, Daubert said that information is false.
“No shots were fired,” she said.
Santos was already wanted for parole violation, resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle and criminal property damage.
He is known for possessing firearms and is considered dangerous, according to police.
KPD has added another charge of resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle to his list of offenses.
Anyone with information that could help KPD find Santos is asked to call dispatch at 245-1711.
