Wish your pooch had better manners? Help is on the way. The Dog Fanciers of Kaua‘i has scheduled dog obedience training classes in February and March.
Dog trainer Newton Young will hold orientation and registration at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the Kaua‘i Humane Society Conference Room.
Owners and handlers must attend but dogs should be left at home. A copy of the dog’s vaccination record is required at registration.
Puppy classes are open to dogs 4 to 6 months old with required vaccinations. All other classes are open to dogs 6 months and older with current vaccinations. There is a $10 additional charge for special handling of vaccination records.
Novice classes will be held Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and puppy classes will be held Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
All classes will be held at the Kaua‘i Humane Society’s small dog park from March 3 to May 5. Classes are $45 for the 10-week session plus membership of $5 for individuals or $10 for family. Each additional dog is $25.
Advanced novice classes will be held Wednesdays from Feb. 28 through May 2. Performance novice classes will be held Thursdays March 1 through May 3. Both classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Kmart rear parking lot. Cost is $25 per 10-week session plus membership of $5 for individuals or $10 for family. Each additional dog is $25.
