Since 1985 Roland Goo of Kilakila Gardens has been growing flowers and tropical fruits. Born and raised on Kaua‘i, Goo continues a family tradition by propagating mango, lychee, ginger and bird of paradise flowers for the market or special occasions by order.
“The best part of farming is that you get to watch things grow and produce.” Goo said. “But the hardest thing is that it takes so much patience. It takes time and you have to keep your eye on the plants. You can’t leave them alone.”
Goo can be found selling his freshly picked flowers at the Kapa‘a Sunshine Market on Waipouli Road every Wednesday at 3 p.m.
