Congratulations to the Kaua‘i YMCA Inline Hockey people on opening another successful season — was nice to see familiar faces like coach Lorna Basquez, Don Taylor (if it wasn’t so cold, it would’ve been perfect for Coldstone), and coach Todd Mayer … he had the perfect handy-dandy so scorekeeper Penni Taketa had light to work with. Now, if we can figure out some extra hands …
Baseball is in full swing now. Coach Hank Ibia of the Kaua‘i High School team had his boys pair off with more than three dozen youngsters from the Lihu‘e Baseball League for a clinic before their inter-squad Red-and-White game Saturday.
Therese Jasper wasn’t there (she’s getting ready to hook up with Starla Marie Pimental Friday at Border’s), but Joy Kouchi had the Raider logo shop in full regalia. They’ve got backpacks, umbrellas (yes, wind-proof kine), sweatshirts, T-shirts and caps for sale. Joy said they’ll be available at all the home games, and if she can swing it, maybe even take it on the road. Scott Nakata (he’s happy about the “Motoring” section) was on hand as was Alton Amimoto and Dean Toyofuku, and all those Raider fans. The big question is, if Starla Marie is coming on this weekend, does that mean she gets to join mama Stella Pimental out at the Waimea Town Celebration?
But before all that fun and games, check out Thomas Noyes at the Kamalani (pavilion) rebuild meeting tomorrow night at the Aloha Kaua‘i Beach resort … Carol Yotsuda said Cheryl and Bob Leathers will be happy to help rebuild that pavilion.
