Women in Theatre announced auditions for its latest production of the award-winning musical “Cabaret,” directed by Andrew Capelletti, a professional director and actor who recently moved to Kaua‘i.“The show is a ‘concept musical,’ which means it not only has extremely entertaining dance routines, fabulous music and lyrics, elaborate settings and costumes and a great story, but it also packs a wallop,” Capelletti said in a release. “This production will attempt to capture not only the entertainment of the show, but also the uncertainty of the world it portrays.”
Set in pre-World War II Berlin, the Kit Kat Club is a decadent party place where drinking, dancing and making merry provide a welcome escape from economic hardship and growing Nazi power.
The WIT production will be performed at the Kaua‘i Community College Performing Arts Center in June, with rehearsals beginning March 1.
Besides the powerful leading role of Sally Bowles that made the title song famous, “Cabaret” offers exciting parts for men and women of diverse ages and talents.
Auditions will be held at the Kaua‘i Academy of Performing Arts warehouse in Puhi on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Feb. 17 from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Actors are requested to bring a song (with music to accompany if desired) and clothes they can move in.
Monologues will also be heard but are not required.
