Don Olivas
Don Domingo Olivas of Mililani, O‘ahu, formerly of Waimea, died at home on Jan. 22, 2007, at the age of 64.
Born in Magsingal Ilocos Sur, Philippines, on Dec. 19, 1942, he was a carpenter with the Carpenter’s Union.
He is survived by his wife Lynn Olivas; children, Donna (Jed) Kaohi of Lawa‘i, Rochelle Olivas of Lawa‘i, Christie (Ronny Jr.) Tanihiro of Wailua and Neal (Tricia Valmoja) Olivas of Lawa‘i; siblings Alejandra “Ann” Olivas Dusseault (Bruce) of Kane‘ohe, O‘ahu; Athmore Dexter Olivas (Eunice) of Kalaheo, Lorraine Romey (Shaya) of Washington and Joseph Olivas (Angela) of Kapa‘a; six grandchildren, Sasha, Searra and Jaymison Kaohi, Veronyka and Kalyssa Tanihiro and Tahiti Kaiwi; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo; Mass officiated by Father Nap will begin at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual attire is suggested.

Joseph Hanwright
Joseph Hanwright died on Jan. 15, 2007, at the age of 65. As a film maker, he traveled the world with his wife Patricia and son Joachim. He inspired and touched many with his passion, love and vision. He made magic and found the profound. He is loved and missed by his family and friends. A celebration of his life is being planned for a later date.

Catherine Agueda
Catherine Louise Agueda died at Wilcox Hospital on Jan. 26, 2007, at the age of 86.
Born on July 12, 1920, in Gardena, Calif., she retired from Honeywell, Inc. in 1993, moving to Kaua‘i in 1994 to be with her family.
Preceded in death by her husband Ernest Agueda, she is survived by a daughter Constance (Mike) Law of Wailua Homesteads; granddaughter Lisa (Jeff Mira) Patterson of Wailua Homesteads; great-granddaughter Kelley Patterson of Wailua Homesteads; sister Nancy (Bob) of Whittier, Calif.; brother Richard (Lorena) Meagher of Torrance, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Church on the corner of Umi and Hardy on Feb. 9 at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association or St. Michael and All Angels Church.
Nobuko Marugame
Nobuko “Nellie” Nambu Marugame died at her home in Waimea on Jan. 28, 2007. She would have turned 87 years old on Feb. 4.
She was born in Huleia on Feb. 4, 1920, and later moved to Waimea where she met and married her husband, the late Shoichi “Slim” Marugame. In Waimea, they raised their family and founded and operated their business, Slim’s Appliances, later opening a second Slim’s Appliances in Kalaheo.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Lawrence “Larry” Marugame of Kalaheo, Alan (Barbara) Marugame of Anchorage, Alaska, and Amy (William) Clise of Seattle; five grandchildren, Kevin Marugame, Lori Marugame, Laura Clise, Steven Clise and Jaclyn Marugame; one great-granddaughter, Kalena Marugame-Kahalekomo; two brothers and a sister, Mitsugi Nambu of Lihu‘e, Manabu Nambu of Honolulu and Doris Kawamura of Kilauea; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Waimea United Church of Christ; services officiated by Rev. Olaf Hoeckman Perceival will begin at 4 p.m., followed by a reception across the street at the community center. The family suggests aloha attire, that flowers be omitted and that remembrances are directed to Kauai Hospice.

Melody Belen
Melody Ann Acantilado Belen of West Covina, Calif., and formerly of Kaua‘i, died on Jan. 23, 2007 at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Los Angeles at the age of 38.
Born in Angeles, Pampanga, Philippines on Aug. 7, 1968, she worked as a utilization management coordinator at Central Health Hospital. While on Kaua‘i, she worked for the Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort & Spa in the Room Service Department.
She is survived by two sons, Giancarlo Kyle A. Belen and Nathaniel Louie A. Belen; fiancé Cecilito “Bobby” Hernandez; parents, Rolando and Clarita Acantilado; brothers Daniel (Remy) Acantilado and Ronnel (Jocelyn Ruiz) Acantilado; sisters Marionette (Angelito) A. Cataquian and Mary Jane (Kip) Zynda; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa. Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Michiyo Murata
Michiyo Murata of Wailua Houselots died at home on Jan. 25, 2007, at the age of 64.
Born in Yamaguchi-ken, Japan, on Sept. 1, 1942, she worked as a Japanese narrator with Roberts Hawaii and Smith’s Tropical Boat Tours.
She is survived by her husband Roy Murata; one daughter Alison (Pedro) Manibusan of California; one son, Casey Murata of O‘ahu; one stepson, Michael (Murna) Murata of Hanapepe; sister Fumie Iwata, brothers Kiyoshi Morimoto and Yukio Morimoto and sister-in-law Mrs. Hoshide, all of Japan; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were private.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
William K. Lemn
William K. Lemn of Anahola died Feb. 2, 2007, at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital, at the age of 92.
Born Nov. 5, 1914, in Honolulu, he was a retired policeman.
Preceded in death by his wife Annie Valpoon Lemn and son Robert A.K. Lemn Sr., he is survived by two sons, William (Luella) Lemn and Harry Samuel Lemn; daughter-in-law Leona; sister-in-law Margaret Parker Lemn; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 19, at Koolau Hui‘ia Church in Anahola, where services will be celebrated at noon. Burial to follow at Koolau Hui‘ia Church Cemetery.

Emilia Matias
Emilia Matias of Hanama‘ulu died at her home on Jan. 29, 2007, at the age of 89.
Born Jan. 6, 1918, in Mangatarem, Pangasinan, Philippines, she was a homemaker.
Preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Guillermo Matias, and sons Roger Matias and Manuel Matias, she is survived by sons Eminillo “Nillo” (Julie) Matias of Hanama‘ulu and Gilbert Matias of Hanama‘ulu; 12 grandchildren, Shane (Stacie) Matias of Lihu‘e, John W. (Doris) Matias of Mililani, Leah (Dave) Taylor of California, Roger (Dorene) Matias Jr. of Lihu‘e, Christine (Ryan) Hao of Oregon, Marissa (Arden Daligdig) Matias of Oregon, Victor Von Zerga of California, Marcy (John) Roberts of California, Valerie Ann Matias of Hanapepe, Matthew (Michelle) Matias of California, Angelo (Precious) Matias of Honolulu and Phillip Matias of Honolulu; 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Feb. 10 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia. Visitation with the departed and the family will begin at 8 a.m. with Mass and graveside services to follow. Casual or aloha attire is suggested.

Julia L. Paik
Julia L. Paik of ‘Anini died Feb 2, 2007, at Samuel Mahelona Hospital, at the age of 88.
Born Oct. 1, 1918, in Makaweli, she was a housekeeper for Samuel Mahelona Hospital.
Preceded in death by her husband James K. Paik Sr. and daughter Minnie Paik, she is survived by seven children, Juliette “Nani” (John) Kuehu, Alice P. (Richard) Ho, Carol (Wendell) Goo, James (Maydene) Paik Jr., Robert (Sharon) Paik, Harry (Linda) Paik and Donald (Bernie) Paik; 24 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Hanalei Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where services will be celebratd at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Hanalei Community Cemetery.
