The Lihu‘e Builders came up with 9 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to storm past the new Waimea Tsunami team 19-8 in the opener.
Kalaheo Kaneshiro Farms opened with 9 runs in the first two innings en route to a 15-1 win over the Makaweli Indians in the nightcap.
Despite the lopsided scoring, Waimea Tsunami finished just two hits short of Lihu‘e’s 16 hits base knocks.
Allen Mundon (3-5) had the big bat for the Builders with a triple and two singles while Stanton Yoshimori (2-4) finished with 5 RBI. Darran Sakai (2-4) and Aaron Adachi (2-4) each added 2 RBI, and Curtis Sadamitsu (2-3), Cory Sakai (2-3) and Isea Horner (2-3) each batted one in. Curtis Matsumura also notched a single for Lihu‘e.
Dylan Ishihara was 2-2 with 2 RBI to lead Waimea. Ian Imamura, who closed on the mound, went 2-3 with 2 RBI, and Ed Yamase, No. 2 man on the mound, was 1-2 with 2 RBI. Hitting leadoff, Kailen Malama went 1-2 with an RBI.
Kelsey Morikawa (3-4), Jayrold Watanabe (1-1), Kevin Efhan (1-4), Ahren Kaneshiro (1-4), Kelii Shigematsu (1-2) and Ray Shirai (1-1) also had hits for Waimea.
Kainoa Santos (4-5) and Kaleo Saiki (3-4) wielded the lumber for Kalaheo in Game 2, each driving three runs home. David Bukoski (3-5) had 4 RBI in the win and Keola McCallum (1-3) knocked in two. Gerren Itamura (3-5) and Troy Kaneshiro (1-5) each added an RBI. Jake Oketani (1-4), Zoom Bukoski (1-3) and Brandon Ishibashi (1-3) also swatted hits for Kalaheo.
Cody Dotario (1-1) had the sole RBI for Makaweli. Michael Shimatsu (1-3) doubled and Jason Nakata (1-3) singled for the Indians’ hits.
Saiki picked up the win for Kalaheo, going six innings and allowing a run on 3 hits while striking out two and walking one. Itamura earned the save for one inning of working, posting one strikeout and one walk.
Owen Koishigawa suffered the loss for Makaweli, giving up 7 runs on 11 hits while walking one in one and a third inning. In relief, Nakata allowed 6 runs on 8 hits while striking out two and walking two.
This weekend’s games will be on a modified schedule due to Super Bowl XLI. Kalaheo will play Hanapepe at Vidinha Stadium while Waimea takes on Makaweli at Hanapepe Stadium in Sunday morning games.
