Three Kaua‘i players finished in double-digits in a balanced offensive attack to lead the JV Red Raiders over Kapa‘a 61-55 in a see-saw contest Tuesday night.
It was the Warriors first loss of the season.
Scott Taylor, blistering the hoop with a pair of treys and a bucket in the first half, went 5-for-6 at the charity stripe in the second half and led the Raiders with 15 points.
Teila Huni scored all of his 13 in the first half, as Kaua‘i rebounded from a 17-11 first-quarter deficit to take a 27-26 lead at halftime.
Kaua‘i continued to build on its slim halftime lead in the second half, led by Austin Simao netting 10 of his 14 points.
Kaleo Cummings, explosive all season, was held to just 4 points, all in the second half. Cummings had been one of the Warriors’ critical gunners, consistently knocking down treys and notching double-digit scoring totals.
Kekoa Colipano had the hot hand for Kapa‘a, finishing with 15 points, the sole Warrior with double-digit scoring.
Following Colipano, Cody Abigania added 9 points, Thomas Gausepohl and Davin Chong each finished with 8 and Kelvin Villanueva added 7, including a second-quarter trey.
Kapa‘a makes the trip to Clem Gomes Gym Friday to face off against a Menehune squad that led the JV Red Raiders up until the final two minutes of play in last Friday’s encounter.
Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
