WAINIHA — A local male found on a North Shore beach yesterday evening was later pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital.
According to Kaua‘i Fire Department officials, someone called 911 at around 6 pm and reported that he saw a surfer “wipe-out” at Wainiha Beach.
When rescue personnel responded to the call, they found Robert Martin, 23, of Ha‘ena unconscious on the beach.
They performed CPR on the beach and continued the procedure en route to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
He is the first drowning victim on Kaua‘i this year.
