Lyndsey Tom of Kapa‘a topped the Girls 16 Singles at the Wailuku Winter Sectionals hosted by the USTA Hawai‘i Pacific Section recently. Tom, second seeded in the tournament, defeated top-seeded Jackie Owens of Maui in the finals 6-2, 2-6, 6-3
Lyndsey Tom of Kapa‘a topped the Girls 16 Singles at the Wailuku Winter Sectionals hosted by the USTA Hawai‘i Pacific Section recently.
Tom, second seeded in the tournament, defeated top-seeded Jackie Owens of Maui in the finals 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 to claim the division trophy.
Tom advanced to the finals by getting past Samantha Kaneta in the semis 6-3, 6-4 and Ashley Pascual in the quarter finals 6-0, 6-1.
In the Round of 16, Tom bested Nikki Castel 6-4, 6-1.
Lani Rae Green of Kekaha won the Girls 10 Singles division with a solid victory over Zoey Akagi-Bustin 6-2, 6-0.
Green got to the finals by defeating Jourdan Duarte 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
Other Kaua‘i players included Chas Okamoto, who advanced from the opening round in the Boys 14 Singles by beating Brent Hashiba 6-1, 6-4 before falling to Marco Kobayashi in the consolation qualifier in three sets.
In the Girls 14 Singles, Shaylee Oria made it to the Round of 16 before falling to Kelly Domingo 0-6, 1-6.
Her second loss came at the hands of Kauwela Neal 1-6, 0-6 in the consolation bracket.
Sarah Kukino, seeded 6th, fell in the Round of 32 to Kristen Young 1-6, 1-6.
Kukino was eliminated in the opening round of consolation play after illness forced her to withdraw.
