Keiki wanting to improve their basketball skills are invited to a free clinic Saturday at the Kaua‘i High School gym.
Hosted by the County of Kaua‘i, Office of Community Assistance, Recreation Agency, the clinic is being offered to youth between the ages of 9 to 18 years old.
Jimmy Yagi, former University of Hawai‘i-Hilo basketball coach, will headline the clinics, broken down into three sessions.
The first session meets at 9 a.m. and runs until noon for ages 9 to 13. The second session, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., is for ages 14 to 18.
Coaches are invited to the third clinic, which runs from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Clinics focus on fundamental drills, mental development, dribbling and passing.
Participants need to sign in at Kaua‘i High School and should be dressed in basketball attire.
During his tenure as head basketball coach for the UHH Vulcans, Yagi attained several NAIA championships and was elected to the Hilo College Hall of Fame.
Bill O’Rear, sports editor for the Hilo Tribune Herald and former NAIA All-American player, will assist Yagi, along with Linda Lopez, a veteran BIIF basketball official.
