Event producer Noah Evslin and Mike Dandurand of Kustom Sounds Kauai want to turn the South Shore into the place to party.
“The Point at the Sheraton used to be a bumpy club but it kind of died out,” Evslin said. “We’re bringing it back. It’s such a beautiful venue and we want to do something with it.”
That something starts tonight.
“We’re calling it The Complete Mix,” he said. “It’s basically a complete mix of music from hip hop, to Latin music to top 40. Our emphasis is getting people dancing.”
For this, they’ve revamped the venue with new lighting and a bigger sound system. Each night will feature a different theme: Monday, for example, is live music; Tuesdays will be designated for weekly karaoke contests; Wednesdays are dubbed the Ultra Lounge.
“The Ultra Lounge will kind of be for the older crowd where people can just lounge and have a drink after a dinner or something,” Evslin said.
That concept was pulled from the W hotel chain and an upscale place the duo visited in Las Vegas.
“We’ve got that kind of ambiance going on and it’s going to be red-themed,” he said. “Everything’s going to be red. The lighting, everything, even the ice cubes. We’re trying it, but Kaua‘i is such a tough island we’re not sure if it will take.”
Dandurand said they’re also working on creating a special drink.
“We’re trying to make a signature drink that will be called the Ultra Lounge,” Dandurand said. “Some places do that, so we’re trying too.”
Thursdays will be considered Rewind the Hits for an industry night. Every Friday will be the Complete Mix and Saturdays will continue to be Salsa nights.
“Although we’re not known for our nightlife, we want to be able to offer something,” Dandurand said. “We’re positioning ourselves so that when the summer comes, we’ll be the place to be.”
