Now the event producer is bringing a very special circus to Kaua‘i this Sunday at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall.
“This is a different type of circus because there are no animals, but the acrobatics are phenomenal,” he said. “They do have a lion though — a lion dance.”
The Shanghai Circus can be compared to popular acts like Cirque de Soleil or Cirque Hawaii.
“Except these guys have been doing it long before Cirque de Soleil have,” he said. “These guys go way back.”
Shanghai Circus actually formed in 1984. They’ve set attendance records for nearly every venue they’ve performed in.
Recent world tour performances include national touring engagements in Europe, throughout the Pacific Islands, across New Zealand and nationwide in Australia.
Its last appearance on-island was two years ago.
The circus consist of a large cast of characters.
“There’s about 20 of them, but they make it look like this huge cast because of all the costume changes they go through,” Moffatt said.
This year’s performance features spectacular aerial entertainers from Deyan Province. These new acts have toured extensively and won numerous awards.
