A celebration for University of Hawai‘i-Manoa candidates completing their Secondary Post Baccalaureate Teacher Education Certification program December 2006 was held at the home of their university supervisor and professor, Dr. Kani Blackwell, in Kapa‘a on Dec. 13.
Four of the five teacher candidates officially graduated Sunday and one candidate, Eric Roeber, will complete his program in August 2007.
Since the graduation ceremony was held on O‘ahu and the students were still teaching and would not be able to attend the December commencement, Blackwell hosted an informal graduation at her home. Four of the graduates are presently employed as contracted teachers in Kaua‘i schools. Eric Roeber (English), Sarah Waterman (science) and Shiannte Keough (math) all teach at Kapa‘a High School. Kyle Cockerham teaches science at Kapa‘a Middle School.
The Statewide Teacher Education program allows for students to stay on Kaua‘i while completing their Teacher Education certification program.
