HANAPEPE — Salt Pond Beach Park is to remain closed until at least this morning after two more sharks were spotted yesterday morning in the waters off the popular Westside beach.
County procedures call for waters to remain off-limits for at least 24 hours after a shark is spotted, officials said yesterday.
Beach-goers were already barred from the waters yesterday after a shark had been seen Tuesday.
Lifeguards said that several children spotted what appeared to be two reef sharks yesterday morning.
Lifeguards confirmed the sightings.
“Salt Pond will be reopened when officials deem it safe for the public to return to the water,” county spokeswoman Mary Daubert said in an Ocean Safety Bureau release.
County officials urge beach-goers to visit other guarded beaches around the island.
