The state Department of Transportation is reminding travelers that the commercial airports will become increasingly busy through New Years Day.
While there are additional parking contingencies in place for all state airports, passengers are still advised to have someone drop them off or take a taxi or airport shuttle to the airport because of anticipated heavy traffic.
The DOT has overflow parking plans in place for each major airport throughout the Hawaiian Islands.
In Lihu‘e, alternate parking will be provided in the gravel lots located at both ends of the regular airport parking lot. When the normal lots are full, adequate signs will be posted and airport security will direct traffic to overflow lots.
For those traveling to and from O‘ahu, travelers are advised to arrive 30 to 45 minutes earlier than normal. Valet parking services will offer discounted rates for stays of two days or more.
Interisland travelers should valet or use the overseas terminal, as the interisland terminal will be crowded.
