Michael Tresler, the departing Kaua‘i County finance director, will become a vice president at Grove Farm in January, company officials said yesterday.
He will oversee property management and renewable energy initiatives for the sugar plantation-turned-development company, which owns about 40,000 acres of Kaua‘i land.
“It’s a kama‘aina company,” Tresler, who grew up on-island, said. “They have the community in mind.”
Tresler will step down from his county post at the end of the month and be replaced by Wallace Rezentes Jr., who held the same position during Maryanne Kusaka’s tenure as mayor.
He will begin his work at Grove Farm on Jan. 8.
“I tried to get some time off in between and re-energize,” he said.
The University of Hawai‘i graduate holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He became a certified public accountant in 1997.
Earlier this month he joined the committee that will nominate candidates for Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative board elections to be held in March.
The former UH football player serves as assistant coach of the Kaua‘i High School football team, as well as president of the Kaua‘i Police Athletic League.
In November, former police chief K.C. Lum expanded a lawsuit against the county to include Tresler. The suit centers around Lum’s controversial
retirement in June.
