The Kaua‘i High School girls soccer team finished their pre-season 3-0 after sweeping the Moanalua Tournament on O‘ahu.
The Red Raiders blanked Leilehua 7-0 before running into Roosevelt and Mid Pacific Institute. The final two games were settled by shootouts after ending regulation play deadlocked 1-1.
Auika Muragin set the pace for Kaua‘i, leading their 7-0 opening win with a pair of goals against the Mules. Clarissa Bulosan, Ashlyn Ubongen, Courtney Wilson, Megan Vento and Tiffany Ikeda-Simao each netted a goal in that win.
Against Roosevelt, Ubongen was the equalizer in regulation play, and shootout kicks by Katie Anderson, Ikeda-Simao, Ubongen and Vento provided the winning edge.
In the final matchup against the Owls, Kaua‘i goalie Savannah Rollins stepped to the forefront by blocking two of the three Mid Pac kicks in the shootout.
Ubongen scored on a penalty kick in the first half to set the stage for the shootout.
Behind Rollins’ save, Anderson, Ikeda-Simao and Skye Shimabukuro drilled the ball into the net in the shootout.
Kaua‘i opens their KIF season next Saturday when they host the Waimea Menehune at Vidinha Stadium.
JV games start at 10:45 a.m. and the first varsity contest is scheduled to kick off at 1:30 p.m.
