Kyara Bunao scored twice as the East Side girls edged the Jalapenos 3-2 to claim the Girls Under 14 title at the Wil Veech Soccer Tournament.
Lauren Spears netted the third goal for the East Siders, who were coached by Cindi Crain.
The East Side girls, first-place team from the AYSO Region 941 GU14 division, advanced through the Wil Veech tournament by controlling the Powerstrikers, the AYSO Region 940’s entry into the tournament. That game finished 4-1 to advance the East Side girls to play the Jalapeno, another AYSO Region 941 team.
According to Dominique Matayoshi, a parent of one of the players, the Jalapeno game was an exciting affair and a tighter game.
Lori Tamayo and Anolani Coon netted goals for Jalapeno in the effort.
Matayoshi said the team is grateful to the officials who volunteer their time. They also appreciate Crain’s commitment to the East Side girls.
East Side girls include Nicholette Levinthol, Mary Walker, Bunao, Larissa Crain, Taetra Christensen, Raquelle Matayoshi, Brandi Silva, Alison Yamamoto, Christen Wilson, Spears, Shealynn Sugai and Katie Perry.
