HONOLULU — Unseeded Waimea High School girls volleyball team beat fourth seeded St. Joseph in the quarter finals of the New City 2006 Hawai‘i State Volleyball Championships Tuesday night.
The Menehune showed the same tenacity they had Monday night in getting past St. Joseph 25-15, 25-11 to advance in the Division II playoffs.
With the victory, the Menehune face off against the top seeded Word of Life team Wednesday (no scores available at press time) in the semi finals.
If they succeed against Word of Life, the Menehune will be in the championships against the winner of the Sacred Hearts/La Pietra matchup.
Sacred Hearts and La Pietra, both teams also unseeded, advanced in the championships by downing seeded teams Tuesday night.
La Pietra got past second seeded Kalaheo in three games, 25-20, 18-25, 25-18.
Sacred Hearts advanced by defeating third seeded Seabury Hall, 25-15, 25-23.
Earlier in the week, Waimea advanced in the opening round by defeating Waianae 25-18, 25-13.
The Division II championship game starts at 6 p.m. Thursday.
