Mamoru Matsumura of Kapa‘a died at home on Oct. 29, 2006, at the age of 88.
Born in Papa’a Bay, Kauai on May 11, 1918, he was a paniolo with Kipu Ranch.
Preceded in death by first wife, Miulan Apana Matsumura, second wife, Rose Malina Matsumura, son, Karl H. Matsumura, daughter, Evelyn A. Ohira and brothers, Buster and Taka Matsumura, he is survived by daughter, Carolyn (Dan) Teter; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Yutaka Matsumura; two sisters, Beatrice Shibata and Bernice (Barney) Zenigami; son-in-law, Richard Ohira.
Friends may visit with the family at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel; service officiated by Rev. Gaylord Williams will begin at 12 noon. Family request casual attire and flowers omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Rufina Canales of Kapa‘a died Oct. 30, 2006, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 92.
Born Nov. 10, 1913, in the Philippines, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters: Rose Nunez of California and Violet McDowell of California; three sons: Victor Nunes of Koloa, Fred Nunes of Kapa‘a, and Carlos Canales of Kapa‘a; two sisters: Fortuna Pantil of Kapa‘a and Juanita Lopez of Honolulu; 12 grandchildren,18 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, where services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
