Katsuyuki Kira
Katsuyuki Kira of McBryde Mill Camp died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Oct. 13, 2006, at the age of 91.
Born in Makaweli on June 1, 1915, he was a plantation laborer with McBryde Plantation.
He is survived by son Dennis (Sally) Kira of Valencia, Calif.; daughter Ann (Noel) Miyamoto of Kalaheo; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister Shizue Tanaka of Honolulu, O‘ahu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, at the Kauai Soto Zen Temple in Hanapepe; service officiated by Rev. Komagata will begin at 4 p.m.
Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Haruo Kakimoto
Haruo Kakimoto of Anahola died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Oct. 13, 2006, at the age of 87.
He was born in Waipake, Hanalei, on Feb. 24, 1919, worked for Hawaiian Canneries as a grader operator and was best known as the proprietor of the Kakimoto seedless watermelon.
He is survived by his wife Saeko Kakimoto; daughter Sarah (Douglas) Fujii of Hanama‘ulu; four sons, Clyde (Jan) Kakimoto of Tuscon, Ariz., Clayton Kakimoto, Neal (Celeste) Kakimoto, Owen Kakimoto, all of Anahola; brother Harold Kakimoto of Lihu‘e; three sisters, Hatsue “Emily” Miyabara, Gladys Ishii, both of Hanapepe, Florence (James) Mukai of Los Angeles, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Satoko Hashimoto
Satoko “Margaret” Go Hashimoto of ‘Ele‘ele, Kaua’i, died at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home on Oct. 11, 2006, at the age of 89.
Born in Kahuku, O‘ahu on March 20, 1917, she was a seamstress with Robert’s Store.
She is survived by three sons, Allen Hashimoto of Honolulu, O‘ahu, Walter (Barbara) Hashimoto of Honolulu, O‘ahu, and Roy (Bernice) Hashimoto of ‘Ele‘ele; daughter Frances (Ralph) Fujinaka of Hanapepe; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mizue Honjiyo of Honolulu, O‘ahu, and Kazuko Yamashiro of Kane‘ohe, O‘ahu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marian Huddy Silva
Marian Ethel Huddy Silva of Liberty, Texas, former resident of Kalaheo, died at the age of 98, on Oct. 13, 2006.
Born on Nov. 2, 1907, in Pila‘a, Kilauea, she is the daughter of the late George William Huddy and Christine Smith Huddy and the sister of the later William G. Huddy.
Preceded in death by her husband Ernest Ganasia Silva Sr., son Harrison and daughter Laverne, she is survived by two sons, Ernest G. Silva Jr. of La Mesa, Calif. and Brian W. Silva of ‘Ele‘ele, two daughters Norma (Andrew) Vidinha of Kalaheo and Sylvia Poland of Liberty, Texas; she is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held at Sterling Funeral Home. Burial followed at Palms Memorial in Dayton, Texas.
Betty Teruko Kimura
Betty Teruko Kimura of Hilo, Hawai‘i, died Oct. 13, 2006, at the Life Care Center of Hilo, at the age of 95.
Born May 21, 1911, in Waimea, Kaua‘i, she was a homemaker and sales clerk at the former Sako Dry Goods. She was also a member of the Honpa Hongwanji-Hilo Betsuin, where she was a helper at the church’s children’s day care.
Friends may call at the Dodo Mortuary chapel on Thursday, Oct. 13, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., where a memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. The family requests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.
She is survived by her son Glenn K. (Roselynn) Kimura of Los Angeles, Calif.; daughters Linda H. Kimura of Hilo, Hawai‘i and Karen T. (Dennis) Sigrist of Salem, Ore.; sister Eleanor H. Honda of Mililani, O‘ahu.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are being handled by Dodo Mortuary, Inc.
Sazuku Sakata
Sazuku Sakata of Kapa‘a died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Oct. 16, 2006, at the age of 91.
He was born on Nov. 28, 1914, in Kapa‘a, and retired as a carpenter with Hicks Homes Inc.
He is survived by three sons, Roy (Tina) Sakata of Kapa‘a, Richard Drapesa of Wailua, Larry (Janelle) Drapesa of Mililani; one daughter, Carolyn (Ricardo Jr.) Garma of Hanalei; one sister, Masayo (George) Oishi of Wailua; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mamie K. Sakata.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Kapa‘a with visitation from 1 p.m. and services beginning at 2 p.m. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.

Francisca C. Kamibayashi
Francisca “Mrs. Jake’s” C. Kamibayashi of ‘Oma‘o, died Oct. 12, 2006, at her home at the age of 81.
Born Feb. 18, 1925, in Hawai‘i, she was the owner of Jake’s Snack Wagon.
She is survived by four sons, Jacob (Vivian) Kamibayashi, Ronald (Terri) Kamibayashi, Gerald Castillo, and Robin (Erna) Kamibayashi; daughter Marlynn (Dennis) Kamibayashi; brother Manuel (Julia) Castillo; two sisters, Julia Rodrequis and Rose Aranio; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, at Koloa Church where services will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Burial to follow at Koloa Church Cemetery. Casual or aloha attire is suggested.

Aimee D. Bergholz of Kaua‘i and Lake Tahoe, Calif., died on Sept.18, 2006, at the age of 53.
Born Sept. 30, 1952, she is survived by her husband, John Bergholz; daughter Erika McDaniel, and son Brody Bergholz. Memorial will be held at Middles, Hanalei, at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22.
