ANAHOLA — Police responding to a 911 call yesterday morning in Anahola subdued a man wielding a knife and transported him to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for medical treatment and psychological evaluation.
Residents called 911 after witnessing the man walking around his yard with a rifle. When officers arrived at the home on Poha Road near Anahola Beach Park shortly after 7:15 a.m., they found him with a knife instead.
The man challenged police, county spokeswoman Mary Daubert said.
The officers called for assistance from negotiators, the special services team and detectives. After about an hour, the man dropped the knife and attempted to flee, but was not successful.
He was brought to Wilcox around 9:30 a.m. No property was damaged and no people were injured as a result of the incident, Daubert said.
