Just four pins separated the Kaua‘i High girls bowling team from their perfect series Saturday.
Kapa‘a High School girls bowling team, who won the KIF series last week, fell four pins short in game two to give Kaua‘i a perfect series.
The Red Raiders’ wahine victory gave Kaua‘i a sweep as the boys team controlled their series for the third straight week.
Kaua‘i boys hold three points for their victories with Kapa‘a and Kaua‘i girls tied for the lead with 1.5 points each following Saturday’s matches.
Rachel Arii soared to a team-high 173 in Game 2 for Kapa‘a. Arii started with a 132 before rolling a 173 and tumbling in Game 3 for 90.
Jean Manibog (143), Marissa Agena (140), Rosie Ebinger (133) and Mindi Agena (124) counted in the Kapa‘a Game 2 scoring.
Sarah Duterte, who finished second overall for Kaua‘i, paced the lady Raiders in Game 2 with a 183.
Noelle Campos, who finished first for the Raider girls on the day, followed with a 156. Kathleen Cadiente (135), Aimee Palaroan (130) and Sheila Colobong (113) counted in the Game 2 win.
Overall, Waimea’s Syanne Sagawa finished with the best score of the day, rolling a 525 (159-196-170) over Campos’ 515 (203-156-156).
Despite Sagawa’s blistering performance, the Menehune girls were able to take only one second place finish, Game 3, where they bested Kapa‘a by 11 points (681-670).
Jessie Duarte sparked the Kaua‘i boys, finishing the day with 594 (192-213-189) followed by Johnny Ruaboro who finished with 480 (189-146-145).
Jerald Colobong dropped 399 pins over two games (175-224), Joseph Aurelio tallied 345 (205-140) over two games and William Balbin (155-179-334) accounted for the Raider boys’ leaders.
The Raider guys finished with an overall 2,583 pinfall followed by Waimea and Kapa‘a with 2,377 and 2,117 pinfalls, respectively.
Kaua‘i girls ended with a 2,223 pinfall followed by Kapa‘a and Waimea who tallied 2,154 and 1,961 pinfalls, respectively.
The wrestling match for the girls’ lead in KIF Bowling continues Saturday at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center starting at 2 p.m.
