HANAPEPE — There was no domination on the fields as four of the five Kaua‘i Pop Warner Association leagues battled under sunny skies at Hanapepe Stadium to open their tackle football season Saturday.
Lihu‘e 12, Kapa‘a 7 (JPW)
Kapa‘a Eagles JPW’s Levi Bethel prevented a shutout on a 4-yard scamper to paydirt in the third quarter Saturday.
The Junior PeeWee contest between the Eagles and Lihu‘e Patriots opened season as the Patriots JPW took a 12-7 win into the locker room behind two touchdown runs by Dreyke Smith Butac.
Butac’s scoring runs of 48 and 38 yards came in the opening frame.
Kapa‘a 12, Lihu‘e 0 (PW)
Waika Alapai scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the PeeWee Eagles to a 12-0 win over the Patriots. Alapai pushed for 2 yards in the third and added a 6-yarder in the final quarter as both PATs fell short.
Lihu‘e 12, Kapa‘a 6 (Midget)
Luke Nagashima recovered a fumble for an Eagle touchdown with 8:15 showing to prevent a shutout.
Mycah Aquias opened the scorebooks with 1:35 left in the first quarter on a 69-yard scamper to the end zone.
Kalen Kimura pulled in a touchdown pass from Taran Tani with 1:59 to go in the third quarter for the final Lihu‘e score.
Koloa 13, Hanapepe 7 (JPW)
Chava Delos Reyes put Hanapepe on the board first on a pass reception from Kenneth Tacazon in the first quarter. The point-after run gave Hanapepe a 7-0 lead.
Kryen Rapacon answered for Koloa in the second quarter on a scamper to paydirt, followed by Trey Aguano breaking for the end zone in the final quarter for Koloa.
Koloa win by forfeit (PW)
Hanapepe could not field the required number of players for the PeeWee contest and forfeited to Koloa.
Hanapepe 12, Koloa 0 (Midget)
Torrey Santiago and Moses Fierro had scoring runs of 3 and 20 yards, respectively, to lead Hanapepe to a 12-0 win over Koloa in the final game of the day. Both PATs failed for the 12-0 score.
This Saturday’s games move to Vidinha Stadium starting at 8 a.m. when Hanapepe meets Lihu‘e in the JPW contest.
Kapa‘a takes on Kekaha at noon.
