Severina S. Vea
Severina S. “Minnie” Vea died July 22, 2006, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital after a short illness at the age of 84.
Born Aug. 5, 1921, in Hanalei to Felipe Sevilla and Ana Manayaga Sevilla, she attended Ko‘olau and Kapa‘a schools and was a retired cook and baker for several institutions including Wilcox Hospital. Hale Nani Hospital on O‘ahu, Hilo Care Center on the Big Island and the Wai‘ohai Hotel in Po‘ipu. She was active in Calvary Chapel Kauai Fellowship.
Predeceased by her husband Joe Vea, son Ricky Ochoco, stepson, Joseph Kalani Vea and granddaughter, Roxi Rayno Makena, she is survived by two sons: Juan “John” Ochoco of Hanama‘ulu, Rudy Ochoco, of Honolulu; daughter Carol Rayno of Lihu‘e; step-daughter Maureen Lani Pungan of Anahola; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be on Saturday, July 29 at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Service will be at 4:30 p.m. Cremation to follow. The family suggests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.

Jason Edward Olsson
Jason Edward Olsson died July 22, 2006, at the age of 25.
Born May 12, 1981, he is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Marvin Lievsay, paternal grandparents, TuTu and VoVo (Theresa Silva of Kaua‘i) Olsson.
He is survived by parents James and Sunday Olsson; brother, Joel Olsson; grandmother Margaret Lievsay and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins on the mainland and Hawai‘i.
His life will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 26, at 11 a.m. in the Laurel Oaks Funeral Home. The Reverand Chris Schoolcraft will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made, honoring Jason, to the charity of your choice.
Constance Erger
Connie “Aunty Connie” Erger, formerly of Kaua‘i, died July 21, 2006, at her home in Waimea on the Big Island at the age of 78.
Born Nov. 30, 1927, in Los Angeles, Calif., she was a homemaker, former assistant director of the YMCA in Kapa‘a, member of the Waimea Outdoor Cirle and partner with the Prince Pono Pono’s Purple Pickle Parlor in Kapa‘a. She was co-founder of Promotions Unlimited and the Hawaii Island Food Bank’s “Gala Headdress Ball.” She was also a volunteer with the North Hawai‘i Community Hospital, Waimea Elementary School, Friends of the Library Book Sales and the Waimea Transitional Housing annual Christmas party as “Mrs. Santa.”
Private services were held. Memorial contributtions may be made to North Hawaii Hospice at 65-1328 Kawaihae Road, Kamuela, HI 96743.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Erger of Waimea; daughters, Linda (Gary) Meyers of Tasmania, Australia, Nancy (Rick) Erger Gmirkin of Kamuela; sons, Kenneth (Sheila) Erger of Tasmania, Australia, Steve (Kathy) Erger of Kamuela; sister-in-law, Barbara (Richard) Altman of California; six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were handled by Cremation Services of West Hawai‘i.
Salome B. Rivera
Salome B. Rivera of Kalaheo died on July 24, 2006, in Waimea at the age of 91.
Born on Dec. 13, 1914, in Hilea Kau, Hawai‘i, she retired as a cook and baker from Woolworth Store.
She is survived by two daughters Selma Rivera and Celia Mae (Herman) Fraticelli; one son, Charles R. Rivera, all of Kalaheo; one sister, Alice B. Richardson of Oakdale, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 29, at Holy Cross Church with visitation from 8 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Lawai Public Cemetery.

Sharlene Muraoka
Sharlene Georgette Muraoka of Santa Rosa, Calif., a former Kaua‘i native, died June 26, 2006, at the age of 60. Born Jan. 13, 1946, in Lihu‘e, she was a homemaker and former employee of the Coco Palms Hotel and American Greeters.
She is survived by her husband Edward T. Muraoka, one son, Robert (Shanti) Muraoka, two grandchildren, Tiana and Bobby Muraoka, all stationed at Fort Carson in Fountain, Colo., two brothers, Eric (Juliet) Braun of Wailua Homesteads and Colin Braun of Hanama‘ulu, numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held with scattering of ashes on a later date.
Matsuno F. Oyama
Matsuno F. Oyama of Waimea, died at Kauai Care Center on July 14, 2006, at the age of 101.
Born in Kapa‘a on April 14, 1905, she was a loving mother.
Preceded in death by husband Ichimatsu; sons, Uichi and Toshito “Burgie,” she is survived by son, Katsumi “Gutsy” Oyama of Waimea; two daughters, Deanna Itsuko Tangalin of Waimea and Pearl Machiko (James) Tamekazu of California; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Ralph Y. Okamura of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, at the Waimea Honpa Hongwanji Mission. Service officiated by Rev. Hashimoto will begin at 2 p.m. followed by burial at the Kekaha Japanese Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.

Phil Hilacion
Philip Hilacion of Lihu‘e died July 19, 2006, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 75.
Born May 31, 1931, in Lihu‘e, he was the proprietor for PH Construction until his retirement in 1997.
Preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Victoria Hilacion, and son Philip Hilacion Jr., he is survived by three daughters: Adele (Jeff) Silva of Kalaheo, Sharon (David) Abreu of Lawa‘i and Jocelyn Malina of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Virginia Waiwaiole and Eleanor Borilez; four brothers: Lawrence Araneta, Albert Araneta, Alfonso Hilacion and Macario Hilacion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 28 at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, where a celebration of life will be at 4 p.m.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Judy Bethune
Judy Bethune, long-time Kaua‘i visitor and Coco Palms returnee, died at her home in Arlington, Texas, on Sept. 23, 2005. A celebration of her life will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at Lydgate Park on the occasion of her 25th wedding anniversary to her husband, Jock.
Following the celebration service, a social gathering will be held at Lydgate Park. All are welcome to both events.

Lt. Col. Edwin Morrison
Lt. Col. Edwin Morrison, USAF (Ret) of Lihu‘e died at home on July 21, 2006, at the age of 86.
Born in Newton, Mass., on Dec. 10, 1919, he is survived by his wife Maureen W. Morrison; sister Phyllis Wheeler of Florida, daughter Margaret Morrison of California; and granddaughter Zoe Morrison of O‘ahu.
Services will be private at a later date. Memorials may be made to Kauai Hospice, P.O. Box 3286, Lihu‘e, HI 96766.
