Jay Juichi Otsuka
Jay Juichi Otsuka of Kapa‘a died at home on May 30, 2006, at the age of 92.
Born in Ko‘olau, Kaua‘i, on March 8, 1914, he was co-owner of Otsuka’s.
He is survived by son, Dr. Allen (Dr. Fyllis) Otsuka of St. Louis, Missouri; daughter, Joanne (Dr. Patrick) Ahana of Kapa‘a; four grandchildren, Alek Ahana of Honolulu, O‘ahu, Bryce Ahana of Kansas, Brianne and Shelley Otsuka, both of St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers, Harry (Kay) Otsuka of Lihu‘e and Jitsuo (Katsuko) Otsuka of Gardena, Calif.; two sisters, Masayo Tone of Kapa‘a and Eiko (Brown) Watanabe of Honolulu, O‘ahu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, June 4 at the Kapaa Jodo Mission; service officiated by Rev. Akiya will begin at 3 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Kathryn Louise Smith
Kathryn Louise Smith of Kalaheo died May 10, 2006, at her home at the age of 85.
Born Nov. 1, 1920, in California, she was secretary to the Dean of Girls at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Calif. before becoming owner/operator of a large supermarket. She sold the business and became financial planner for several corporations owned and operated by the family. She moved to Kaua‘i in 1987 and was recognized in The Garden Island as one of Kaua‘i’s known survivors of the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor.
Preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Smith, daughter, Kathryn ‘Kitten’ Smith and son Richard D. Smith, she is survived by daughter Linda K. (Smith) Wike of Ehrenberg, Ariz., and son Allan L. Smith, of Exeter, Calif. and numerous grand, great, and great-great- grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Private burial services were held in Porterville, Calif.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Sueko Nishioka
Sueko Nishioka of Hanama‘ulu died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 22, 2006, at the age of 75.
Born in Waipouli on Sept. 30, 1930, she was a homemaker, mother and wife.
She is survived by three daughters; Laura Nishioka of Hanama‘ulu, Patricia (Edwin) Ramos of Lihu‘e, Adele Fernandes of Kapa‘a, three brothers; Frank (Toshiko) Kaneshiro of Kapa‘a, Soichi “Boy” (Jackie) Kaneshiro of Kapa‘a, Asaichi Francis (Louise) Kaneshiro of O‘ahu; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were private.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
