Michael Gonzales
Michael Anthony Gonzales died unexpectedly on May 21, 2006, at the age of 42.
Born Feb. 11, 1964, in Michigan, he was a resident of Kaua‘i for several years.
Preceded in death by his father, Nieves Gonzales, Sr. and grandparents, Juan and Betty Gonzales, he is survived by two children: Arion and Kaylea Gonzales; his mother Alicia Vasquez; grandparents, Herbey and Maria Garza; brothers: John (Beth) Gonzales, Nieves (Amy) Gonzales, Jr., Andy (Kandi) Gonzales, Ruben Sanchez and Christopher Oliva; sisters: Sherry (Tony) Ortiz, Sandy (Danny) Balderas, Sabrina (Sam) Gibson, and Tanya Sanchez; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and longtime friend, Dena Anderson, mother of their daughter.
A celebration of his life will be held at Lydgate Beach Park on Monday, May 29, at 2 p.m.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Eleanor Malone
Eleanor “Kamanao” Malone, died suddenly on May 23, 2006 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 87.
Born July 8, 1918, in Kalihiwai, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Walter Malone, her father, William Mahikoa, and mother, Makaleka Nae‘a Kaluahine Apaka.
She is survived by five children: Joseph M. (Tamara) Malone of Newport Coast, Calif., Hiilani J. (Ronald) Mikaitis of Anahola, Nalani L. (Jay) Andrus of Honolulu, O‘ahu, Robert A. (Hermania) Malone of Calif., and Jarred Kaluahine of Florida; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be held at the Kapaa Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4-1731 Kuhio Hwy. at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May, 27.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Kumie D. Simao
ay 23, 2006, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 80.
Born March 30, 1926, in Waimea, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by five sons: Darrel (Diana) Simao, Mark (Sharmaine) Simao, Russell (Margie) Simao, Matthew (Corrine) Simao, and Luke (Blythe) Simao; two daughters: Clennis (Delayne) Pai and Leanne Correa; 26 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 2, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo, where Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. by Father Nap. Cremation will follow.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Laura Goodno
Laura Virginia Goodno of Puhi, died May 22, 2006, at her home in Puakea, at the age of 74.
Born Aug. 18, 1931, in West Virginia, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters: Margie (Dexter) Goodno of ‘Ele‘ele and Maureen (Russ) Rodojev of Ohio; two sons: Mike (Karen) Goodno and Tom (Cindy) Goodno, both of California; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 27 at Puakea Regency in Puhi at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Walter Yamamoto
Walter Hideyuki Yamamoto of Koloa died May 17, 2006, at the age of 70.
Born July 24, 1935, in Koloa, he was a retired meat cutter.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, daughter: Cheryl (Rory) Kashima; son Wade (Mitzi) Yamamoto; sisters: Janet Gerboc, Amy Hand, and Barbara (Val) Hataishi, and Margie Picadura; brother: Hubert (Lillian) Yamamoto; grandchildren: Tammi Kashima, Ashley (Glenn) Rodero, Tobi Yamamoto, and Tirah Yamamoto; great-grandchildren: Koby Kashima and Lyndsie Kashima; and numerous other relatives.
Services will be held Saturday, May 27 at Veteran’s Cemetery in Hanapepe. Visitation with the family will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Service at 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Burial to follow. Flowers will be omitted.
Casual or aloha attire is suggested.
Susanna Salvacion
Susanna “Suzie” or “Sandy” Fernandez Salvacion died May 18, 2006, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 83.
Born March 3, 1923, in Hilo, she was preceded in death by her husband, Irenio Salvacion, father Santiago Fernandez, mother Flora Tompiat, daughter Juliet (Pedro) Riopta and Veronica (William) Newall, grandson Chavis Duclyan Cortez; brothers and sisters: Cecilio Fernandez, Benjamin Castillo, Rose Castillo, Katherine Ventura, Samion Fernandez and Daniel Quiral.
She is survived by two sisters: Angelina (Luis) Flores and Florafin (William) Mande; two brothers: Porfirio (Patricia) Ventura and Edward (Nikki) Tarape; four sons: Gerald (Josie) Pongasi, Johnny (Karen) Pongasi, Rojellio (Adela) Duclyan, Norman (Jayme) Salvacion; five daughters: Bernadette (Samuel) Banasihan, Priscilla (Norman) Akana, Chubby Avelina (Deanna Arakaki) Salvacion, Nadine (John) Abreu, Abbie (Kanani Cardinez) Salvacion; 33 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be on Saturday, May 27, at ‘Ele‘ele Sacred Hearts Church from 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. by Father Nap. Burial to follow at Hanapepe Public Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Tsuruyo Moribe
Tsuruyo Moribe of Kaumakani died at home on May 22, 2006, at the age of 84.
Born in Waimea on Nov. 11, 1921, she was a field worker with Olokele Sugar Company.
She is survived by four sons, Stanley (Maxine) Moribe of Los Angeles, Calif., George (Merle) Moribe of Pearl City, O‘ahu, Dennis Moribe of San Rafael, Calif. and Wesley (Rita) Moribe of Kapa‘a; daughter, Janie (Collen) Kunimura of San Jose, Calif.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral service officiated by Rev. Hashimoto will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 27 at the Hanapepe Hongwanji Mission. Casual attire is suggested.

Lorena Bergonia-Fernandez
Lorena Ke‘alohi-Jewel Bergonia-Fernandez of Lihu‘e, died May 19, 2006, at Kapiolani Children’s Hospital at the age of 7.
She was born Feb. 12, 1999, in Honolulu.
She is survived by her parents: Norman and Triana Bergonia; two brothers: Kaena Bergonia and Tyler Bergonia; three sisters: Shana (Joel) Andres, Chelsey Bergonia, and Denise Bergonia; grandparents: Charlotte and Allan Beall, Gary Fernandez, and Ben Bergonia; four nephews: Ayden Bernadino, William Andres, Jordan Andres and Tristen Silva; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and nurses.
Friends may visit with the family from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 27 at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa. Cremation will follow. Casual attire is suggested.
