Waimea’s state tournament run ended yesterday with a 9-8 loss to Kailua.
The Menehune earned the eighth place spot at the 2006 HHSAA/Wally Yonamine State Baseball Championships, which were held at Iron Maehara Stadium on Maui.
Nathan Alvarado picked up the win for the Surfriders and Reggie Vigilia suffered the loss for the KIF champions.
Quinton Natividad led Waimea with a 4-4 (2B, RBI) performance. Isaac Castillo ripped two RBI’s on a 2-4 (1 HR) showing and Brad Frasco went 2-2 with a double.
Keith Nonaka chipped in with a triple and an RBI.
Waimea ended its 2006 campaign with a 12-3 record and a 1-2 mark in state tournament play.
The state appearance was the first by a Waimea squad since 1994. In 1984, the Menehune placed second in the state.
