Officials still do not know the origin of remains found May 7 at Nukoli‘i beach, said a public information officer in Mayor Bryan Baptiste’s office.
“The latest word from the Kaua‘i Police Department on the remains is that a lab official (said) it would be another week before (KPD) would have the results,” said Mary Daubert in a statement.
The remains were found the day after 17-year-old Kapa‘a High School student John Dacuycuy was swept out to sea by strong currents off Nukoli‘i beach. They were sent to the Mainland to determine if they are human.
The Coast Guard called off the search for Dacuycuy on May 8.
