Kauai’s Chelsea Smith-Wishard actually took home a gold on Saturday in the 1,500 meter race (4:54.69) at the Island Movers/HHSAA State Track and Field Championships on Oahu. Smith-Wishard also ran to a seventh-place time in the 800 meter race (2:27.83).
The Red Raider girls finished up with a bronze medal showing as a team.
Other top KIF girls finishers included: Kauai’s Tiffany Ikeda-Simao, who took a silver and bronze in the 100 meter dash (13.36) and 200 meter dash (26.81), along with a fifth place in the long jump (17-01.50); Kauai’s Savannah Rollins, who tied for fourth in the high jump (4-11); and Kauai’s Jamilee Jimenez, who finished seventh in the high jump.
The Red Raider girls’ 4-by-100 relay team won a silver medal with a time of 50.49.
On the boys’ side, Waimea’s Kenny Estes led the way with a fifth-place time in the 100 meter dash (11.57). Teammate Nathan Martin crossed the 3,000 meter finish line in eighth place (9:50.04).
Kapaa’s Nathaniel Langi gave an eighth place throw in the discus event (143-02).
The Kaua‘i High girls came in third, behind favorites Punahou and Baldwin, but ahead of other perennial track and field powers such as Kamehameha-Kapalama, OIA Champion, Mililani, and BIIF Champion, Hawaii Prep.
