Congratulations to coaches Gary Kodani and Elton Montemayor for such a great KIF championship game! It’s a shame that we couldn’t end up with two winners, but both coaches and their players brought everything to the court, according to Clyde Kodani (who was on hand with Helena Tuesday).
Greg Gonsalves was also on hand at the game, and bright and early, was at Kiahuna to get the HHSAA state tennis championships underway. Mailika Napoleon had a great game, and was ready to take the court with Kelli Okamoto as well.
Dr. David Doi of the Big Island (He said he has some customers who fly over from Kaua‘i to take advantage of his holistic dentistry practice) said this was the first time his daughter Mariko’s school has ever competed at the state level.
Hats off, too, to Josie Pablo, Colleen McCracken, Gilbert Nobrega, and all the Mahelona staff for hosting two major events in two days! Orianna Skomoroch said the Mahelona Petting Zoo is one of their signature events, and the Mahelona staff just buckled down and hosted the dedication of their emergency department on Wednesday. George Mukai was at both events along with the other Mahelona Auxiliary members, and it was nice to see Kaua‘i fire chief Robert Westerman under more pleasant circumstances.
Theresa Koki said this Saturday is their Westside Family Celebration at the Waimea Canyon School, and if you’re heading west, drop in on Takeshi Fujita for their Children’s Day program in Hanapepe … Taiko Kaua‘i performs at 11 a.m., but Bev Pang is in Las Vegas!
Happy Mother’s Day, Kaua‘i! Stay safe.
