Violet Kiyoe Shiraki of Kapa‘a died at home on April 26, 2006, at the age of 87.
Born in Kealia on Sept. 12, 1918, she was employed as a cook at the Wailua Golf Course Fairway Restaurant, Wailua Marina, and Kauai Resort Hotel, from where she retired. Her favorite pastimes were crocheting, sewing, crafts and cooking.
Preceded in death by her husband, Jack Kazuto Shiraki, she is survived by five children: Jane Holcomb of California; Neil (Mary) Shiraki of Kapa‘a; Gary (Evelyn) Shiraki of O‘ahu; Linda (Larry) Eyestone of Kapa‘a; and Carol Shin of O‘ahu; one sister, Tsugiyo Shiraki of Lihu‘e; two stepsisters residing in Japan; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were privately held at the Kapaa Hongwanji Mission on May 6. Family members requested no koden, with monetary expressions of sympathy donated in gratitude to the Kauai Hospice Foundation.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home staff members assisted family members with arrangements.
