Salt Pond cleanup Sunday

As part of a youth-driven effort to encourage young people on Kaua‘i to take care of beaches and encourage visitors and residents to recycle, some of the island’s involved youths have organized the Salt Pond Beach Cleanup Awareness Day tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., organizers said in a press release.

Participants in the children’s program at Ho‘ike Kaua‘i Public Television will videotape the event, said Alii Tasi Ponder, whose daughter Sophia Salzberg is also involved.

The Aloha Kids Project encourages the individual to “step up” in a more meaningful way in their community, particularly in areas of environment and social reform, while sharing the message of aloha, they said.
