The 28th Annual Pine Trees Longboard Surf Classic, Kaua‘i’s oldest surf contest, was postponed this weekend and rescheduled for Saturday and Sunday (May 6-7).
The event is a family outing, with kids divisions and an ‘ohana tandem and Stand-up surf paddle.
“It runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. There’s an awards ceremony on Sunday in the late afternoon. It’s always a good turnout. It started out with just a few guys and Roger from Tropical Taco kept running it for a few years. Then we’ve been running it,” Kristine from Kai Kane said.
A vintage boards division is also being added to this year’s festivities.
Entry forms are available at surf shops around the island and need to be turned in at Kai Kane in Hanalei.
The contest is presented by Kai Kane and divisions include menehune open 12-under, girls 13-17, boys 13-17, wahine 18-35, na wahine 36-over, jr. men 18-29, kane 30-39, masters 40-49, legends 50-over, vintage open, tandem ohana, and stand-up paddle expression session.
All boards must be 9 feet and above, except for 17-under divisions, which must be three feet overhead.
Entry fee before April 27 is $20 and includes a T-shirt. Entries turned in after April 27 will be $25.
