Not every young person on Kaua‘i can say he or she has frolicked in the snow.
Even fewer of them are able to say they did it in Hawai‘i.
But certain Island School seniors and their instructor James Massaro can boast of that feat, having traveled to the summit of Mauna Kea on the Big Island for a geology class field trip recently, according to sources at Island School in a press release.
They also studied the diverse geology of the Big Island from sea level to the summit, stopping along the way in much warmer weather at the Punalu‘u Black Sand Beach Park.
Students who made the trip include Ka‘ua Kaholokula, Kevin Dhorne, Natasha Arruda, Melody Yeung, Kori Miyoshi, Calah Nakasone, Jenna Smalling, Justin Pelton, Sky Smith, Taylor Dabin and Eddie Sanchiz.
