Four other swimmer qualfied for the meet, but have other commitments.

“We’ve been going almost every year for about 20 years,” Mokihana head coach Orlando Anaya said.

The Manoe contest is a long course meet in an Olympic-sized pool.

“It’s always a challenge for us. They usually stand up to the challenge. It’s a good warm-up for the Sakamoto Invitational on Maui,” Anaya said.

At the Manoa qualifiers this past Saturday and Sunday, Mokihana got a special treat with swimmers from Las Vegas, Seattle, and Wisconsin participating in the event.

Also, free tryouts for Mokihana Aquatics are going on now and run through the end of the month in Lihu‘e (Kaua‘i High School’s pool) on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. In Kapa‘a, the group will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
