The cool weather last Thursday didn’t faze the athletes in action, who were jousting for points towards states in the Kaua‘i Police Activities League’s (K-PAL) third match of the season.
Another tri-meet of K-PAL wrestling is scheduled for tonight at Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School. The festivities should begin around 6 p.m.
Tonight’s bouts are the fourth installment of the islandwide matches and next Thursday, April 20, the fifth and final regular season contests get underway at Chiefess at 6 p.m.
The island championships, which is the prelude to the state championships on Maui, take place on April 30.
Top competitors at last Thursday’s meet included Macyn Nagao, Aaron Sears, Kyle Gusman, Shain Davis, Blaz Gusman, Ekolu Yam, Gage Gusman, Matt Jimenez, Thomas Yam, Richard Kaui, Ikaika Ki‘ilau, and Riley Young.
Teams participating in the event come from the Eastside, central, and Westside.
Sam Willis and Mike Thompson are the coaches for central, Larry Richardson is Eastside’s coach, and Paul Zina takes care of Westside.
Tom Perry is the event’s referee. Mark Ozaki acts as the tournament’s director.
