“NU The Movie” is about to take surf movies to new heights with its premier at the Waimea Theatre on May 6 at 7 and 9 p.m.
The flick features the best new surfers from the amateur movement, and focuses on the fresh faces in the future of surfing.
With a great soundtrack featuring Kaua‘i’s own Kai Roots, “NU” delivers enough raw footage to feed your surfing appetite.
What does “NU” stand for? “NU” stands for a couple of things: Nalu Underground the surf magazine, and also for “new,” because this film exposes something totally new for surf movies.
“NU The Movie,” directed by Ross Haines, a University of Hawai‘i alumni, and produced by Mike and Curt Smith from the westside of Kaua‘i is, “a special blend of all the right ingredients,” Haines said.
The focus of this movie is to spotlight amateur surfers, such as 13-year-old Carissa Moore, who’s upping the stakes for women’s surfers everywhere, and Ola Elogram’s mind blowing airs.
While focusing on the future faces of surfing in the world’s most epic surf locations all over the world, “NU” also features some of the industry’s biggest names such as Slater, Irons, Parko, Rastovich, Wardo. And you can’t forget the boys: Braden Diaz, Dustin Barca, Mark Healy, Danny Fuller, Pancho and Sunny, to name a few. “NU” includes a ton of bonus footage including special shots of unsponsored rippers. The premiere of “NU The Movie” is set for Saturday, May 6 at the historic Waimea Theatre at 9691 Kaumuali‘i Hwy. This premiere event will feature a live DJ and promises to deliver nonstop action with free prizes and giveaways, a chance to meet some of the future faces in surfing, the producers, and see some of the most epic surfing ever.
“NU The Movie,” brought to viewers from Nalu Underground surf magazine, in partnership with Quiksilver, A-Frames Productions Hawai‘i, Nukumoi Surf Company, and Duke’s, sets a new standard for surf videos throughout the world.
“NU The Movie” will show first at 7 p.m., and is open to all ages. The second showing will be at 9 p.m. for 18 and over.
Doors open at 6 p.m. There is a $12 cover charge per person.
