Leaders at Kauai Economic Opportunity, Inc. said in a press release they have scheduled a 24-hour, basic mediation training’ class.
The registration deadline is April 17. And the class will be held April 21. 22, and 23, at the KEO offices at 2S04 Wehe Rd., Lihue (near the county Department of Water offices).
In basic training, mediators learn the attitude, process and skills to help people in conflict to resolve their dispute peacefully Lilly, and to their mutual satisfaction.
Mediation is a process designed to encourage two disputing parties to identify and communicate their needs and interests, and to help them negotiate their own settlement to the issues in dispute.
A mediator is a neutral third person who manages this process as an alternative to going through the court system.
The mediation process benefits members of the community, and has equally positive effects on the personal lives of mediators, a KEO spokesperson said.
Mediators are community volunteers trained to be neutral facilitators of a wide range of disputes; neighbor/neighbor; landlord/tenant; consumer/merchant; workplace: condo and real estate; divorce ,and family issues; and judge-referred criminal misdemeanor cases.
