Hongwanji Council holds retreat

Members of the Kauai Hongwanji Council will hold a Nembutsu retreat at the Lihue Hongwanji Mission on Kuhio Highway in Kapaia, from April 14 to April 16, they announced last week in a press release.

The Rev. Marvin Harada, resident minister of the Orange County Buddhist Temple in California, is guest lecturer.

The theme for the retreat will be “What Shin Buddhism Means to Me in the 21st Century.” Harada holds a bachelor’s degree in religious studies from the University of Oregon, and two master’s degrees, one in Buddhist studies from the Institute of Buddhist Studies, and the other from Ryukoku University in Japan.

There is a registration fee of $25.

For specific times and dates, refer to the community calendar in The Garden Island or, for more information, call the Rev. Reverend Mary David at 822-4667, the Rev. Midori Kondo at 245-6262, or the Rev. Kojun Hashimoto at 338-1537.
