Hanamatsuri service Sunday
The Rev. Midori Kondo of Lihue Hongwanji Mission said in a press release that mission members will participate in the Kauai Buddhist Council’s Hanamatsuri Service Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at the Kauai Veterans Center on Kapule Highway in Lihu‘e.
The “joyous celebration of Buddha’s birth” will be celebrated, and the ceremonies are open to all, especially those who desire to know more about Buddhism, she said. Also, on April 4, another session of “Ocean,” an introduction to Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, is at 7 p.m. in the church conference room on Kuhio Highway in Kapaia.
There is no charge for either event. Call the Lihue Hongwanji Mission, 245-6262, for more information.
Road-closures hotline is on
With all of the wet weather, landslides, floods, potholes, and other potential hazards on the roads, Kaua‘i Police Department officials have dedicated a telephone line to offer recorded messages about weather and road conditions. The phone number is 241-1725. It is updated every 30 minutes, or sooner, if necessary, according to the message. It is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
