  • Kaua’i had the lowest unemployment rate among the counties in Hawai’i in January (the last full month for which data are available), at 2.1 percent, compared to a state average of 2.2 percent. The Big Island’s unemployment rate was the highest, at 2.5 percent. On Kaua’i, there were just 700 people unemployed in January, with 32,750 people working out of a total civilian labor force of 33,500, according to figures from the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations in a press release.
