With the weather clearing up, the first-ever outdoor mixed martial arts event on Kaua’i is on the way, with the festivities kicking off tonight at Kuku’i Grove’s Center Stage.
“I’m already starting to pick up some of the fighters from the airport,” event organizer Vance Pascua said.
The “Ainofea” creator mentioned that attaining the high amount of UFC/Icon fighters was a tremendous feat, considering their extremely busy schedules.
At around 5:30 p.m., MMA all-stars like Robbie Lawler, Kimo Leopoldo, Kit Cope, Niko Vitale, and Anthony Torres will be featured in an autograph session.
Also, the official weighins will take place for the 16 scheduled fights, the largest amount of battles on the island at an MMA event.
According to Pascua, Arizona’s Mystee Blackwood has pulled out of the women’s kickboxing match for personal reasons.
However, in the works is a possible fight between two Kaua’i girls, A.J. Jenkins and Rhiannon Morales.
Morales, who fought Molly Helsel in the last Garden Isle MMA event, seems like a good fit for the contest.
The main events blow up tomorrow at Hanapepe Stadium, with doors opening at 5 p.m.
Ringside seats for the Garden Isle MMA Cage Match #3 are sold out.
And regular seating is going fast, but a few tickets remain.
General admission tickets are $25 and $30 at the door.
Tickets are still available at Meyvn Skate in Lihu’e, Tropical Tantrum in Kapa’a, Dynamic Tinting in Puhi, Sweet and Sassy in ‘Ele’ele, Westside Sporting Goods in Waimea, M&H Service in Waimea, and Wong’s Restaurant in Hanapepe.
