Sweetie Nelson was just one of the public-relations people who were floating around Kaua‘i Community College Friday. Sweetie (got to meet her at the Kukui‘ula road groundbreaking) was coordinating with Brenda Sameshima (and there’s Brenda Miyashiro, and Brenda Jose) of Kukui‘ula in getting the loose ends wrapped up for their student film seminar. Hats off to Jane Kachmer, Dick Holtzman, and all those people for such a great event! Mark Oyama was juggling between the Chef George Mavrothalassitis (Mavro, for short) event for the KCC culinary-arts students, and keeping an eye on the rain and how it affected the tent where the student film makers and VIPs would be having lunch. Hayley Matson-Mathes was here from O‘ahu to make sure everything went smooth for that event, and Chef Mavro’s wife Donna Jung is also a public-relations person. Conrad Nonaka of the Hale ‘Aina ‘Ohana was also home for this event, and he said he’ll be back for the upcoming KCC Gala in April. Get your tickets early, as Shirley Tani said they have some great things in store for this year’s event. Billy Gibson was outside with the students watching the whole thing on video, and Nikki Lucidarme and Mel Bacio were holding down the fort in the cafeteria. Was nice to chat with Dr. Wayne Miyata and Jolynne Uyesono at the bookstore between events. Wayne was representing Chancellor Peggy Cha at the film seminar, and Jolynne was minding the front since Sheane was visiting the Ninth Island.
